Shenyang Rubber Research and Design Institute of China United Rubber (Group) Corporation (the former Shenyang Industrial Rubber Products Research Institute of the Ministry of Chemical Industry) was set up in 1958. It is a research and development establishment of rubber products with a combination of research, production, and trade. It enjoys the honor of Torch Type Research Institute of Shenyang.

  It has a land area of 150000m2 and fixed assets of 110.7million RMB Yuan.
There are 378 workers and staff members in the institute, among whom 191 are engineers and senior engineers.

  It has 7 departments. They are:
Hose and Coated Fabric Products Res. Dept.;
New Material and Mechanical Goods Res. Dept.;
Information and Standardization Res. Dept.;
Physical Test and Chemical Analysis Center;
Production Center;
Xinye Company;
Pilot Production Base of Speciality Rubber Products.

  Since setting-up of the institute, there have been obtained more than 850 research achievements, of which 126 were awarded Research Achievement Prizes by the state, the province, and the municipality. In those achievements, "Inflatable Rubber Elements of Packers Used in Open Oil Wells" was awarded "State Invention Prize", and "Development of Speciality Rubber Hoses", "Development of Diaphragms for Transformers", etc., "State Scientific and Technological Progress Prize". With the research achievements transformed into production, the products made by the institute have been widely used in ships, electronics, nuclear, petroleum, chemical, water conservancy and electric power, engineering machinery, communications and transportation, medical,and health applications. Some of the products have been exported to US, Canada, etc.

  As an enterprise with science and technology as the forerunner, the combined strength of the institute has been rapidly grown and the institute has past the accreditation of ISO 9001 quality systems

Subcommittee of Coated Fabrics of National Technical Committee for Standardization of Rubber and Rubber Products;
  Subcenter of Hose and Coated Fabrics of the National Rubber Industrial Information Center;
Quality Supervision and Inspection Center of Rubber Hose and Coated Fabrics in the Chemical Industry.

  Drilling hose, automotive air conditioning hose, high-, medium-, and low-pressure hydraulic hose, braided and spiraled hose, and speciality hose as the typical types.
  
Flexible fuel tanks for aircraft, rubber bags for transformers, pontoon for salvage, infatables, water storage tanks, and oil storage tanks as the typical types.
   Waterproof and anticorrosion rubber sheet (in rolls) for buildings and chemical plants as the typical types
   Rubber elements of packers for oil wells, rubber rolls for industrial applications, rubber flexible joints for dredging operation, seals and gaskets, anti-shock and anti-vibration mounts, and other mechanical rubber goods.
